How To Get Over A Broken Heart

Getting over a broken heart is a difficult process due to the intensity of the pain you may feel during this period. As the old saying goes, time heals all wounds, and unfortunately this is true for that of a broken heart- there is no quick fix, it just takes time.

There are some things you can do to speed up the time it takes to get over a broken heart.


The most important thing you can do to speed up the time it takes to get over your broken heart, is to avoid your ex for an undeterminable amount of time. Whilst this is an extremely hard act to accomplish, you must avoid contacting or seeing them by any means possible. It may be worthwhile taking a break or a holiday for a short period of time, to help you adjust to not seeing or contacting your ex. Don’t feel bad if you are having difficulty doing so, remember, you are trying to adjust to not seeing someone you previously saw for the majority of your time. Most people have significant difficulty with this step of getting over a broken heart.

We feel that if we could just see them or talk to them, things might be different, however this is not the case and would only result in your feeling worse due to the upraise of unwanted feelings in increased pain.


Distract yourself as much as possible in order to prevent yourself from constantly thinking about your ex partner and previous relationship; go out, participate in activities or go to the gym. Exercise is particularly beneficial during this stage as it increases the production of endorphins which will actually make you feel happier. Participating in activities whilst experiencing so much pain is often difficult, however it is an imperative step in getting over the end of a relationship and a broken heart.


Take some time out to talk to friends and discuss your feelings. This is an important way of coming to grips with the situation and will provide you with the support you need to move on with your life and get over your broken heart. Friends also provide an excellent distraction during this period, and have the ability to make you smile, even when you are feeling at your lowest. They may also be able to provide you with some invaluable advice, form their experiences, which will help you in getting over your broken heart.


Once you have allowed yourself sufficient grieving time, get back on the horse and start dating again. Finding feelings for another is one of the most effective ways of getting over a broken heart.
